Project: Outbreak Map

  • Outbreak Map is an iOS-based application that allows users in possession of an iOS device to voluntarily report symptoms that are characteristic of several respiratory illnesses facilitated by a clinically-validated Patient-Reported Outcome (PRO) tool.
  • This data, being sensitive, is anonymized and de-identified at each point of collection while being paired with the user’s generalized location to then be contributed to a hosted global map of heat signatures representing densities of symptom reports in real-time.
  • This is in efforts of drawing an arbitrarily defined risk exposure score that is derived using the user’s current location, their locale’s population density, and quantity of reports within a ranged kilometer radius. By tracking the spread and sickness reports, we can predict the trends in highly populated areas and assess the health risk in a calculated radius.
